The Cloud Scale
As part of White Cloud's mission to make an impact on the degradation of our incredible planet, we have developed a scale to show the proportion of ingredients in each White Cloud product that is sourced from Aotearoa. This not only supports local growers and the economy, ensuring I can trust my suppliers for sustainable sourcing, but it also minimizes the carbon footprint involved in procurement.
Like all flora and fauna, some ingredients undergo seasonal variations. I've considered how to account for this in our products and have arrived at a solution.
My commitment is to the planet above all, and I do not wish to compromise my principles (or yours) by using an ingredient from a questionable supply chain or one that is sourced from afar. Ingredients like Sunflower oil, Lavender, and Hemp are readily available throughout the year and have a longer shelf life, allowing for bulk purchases. However, ingredients such as Hazelnut, Blackcurrant, and Borage aren't always as accessible, necessitating substitutions.
Each oil has a unique composition and offers different benefits for the skin, so it was crucial to find replacements that wouldn't diminish the product's overall effectiveness.
Below is a list of the seasonal oils and their substitutes:
- Borage oil is replaced with a blend of Hemp seed and Sunflower oil (both Hemp and Borage are rich in GLA - Gamma Linolenic Acid, but Hemp is denser, so Sunflower oil is added to balance it).
- Blackcurrant oil is substituted with Grape seed oil (both are high in Linoleic acid).
- Hazelnut oil will soon be removed from our formulations and is likely to be replaced with New Zealand Walnut oil, as I have discovered a wonderful supplier.
Do let me know if you have any questions on this. I try to be as transparent as I can. If there is a change to the formulation, I will let you know on your order.
