What is in a name?

What is in a name?

In a world where there are so many names for everything from coffee types to hair colour, its easy to get lost and become mystified, bogged down and just a bit over the amount of ridiculous marketing schlep and speel that go into getting YOU (yes, you) to buy whatever product on the market. I am guilty of it too, I totally admit.

So, I thought I would break down some of the jargon that you might hear.

Natural Skincare

This one you will have seen a lot! Everywhere in fact. It is a very broad term used for any skincare that has a component, or ingredient, that is “of nature” then it can have the term Natural attributed to it. It is a very large umbrella that a lot of skincare brands can stand under (it is also increasingly crowded under there!). This also includes ingredients that are naturally derived but made in a lab.

So, how to make a brand different and stand out from that crowd? Please enter Clean Skincare, Green Skincare and Conscious skincare. But what is the difference? Not a huge amount to be honest.

Clean Skincare

Clean Skincare is known as being free from toxins (harmful to your body) such as PEGS, Parabens, Sulfates (I will cover this at some point). Clean skincare also means Transparent skincare as you are saying to the consumer that you know exactly what is in the product and you can confidently tell the consumer what is in it, what is not in it and why.

Green Skincare

Green skincare is where I would probably put White Cloud; it is sourced, produced and packaged ethically and sustainably. However, I do not think any skincare brand can actually say they are truly and completely green, there is always something that can be improved.

Conscious Skincare

Conscious skincare is the final off shoot that is commonly bandied about. It is litereally choosing a product, or brand, that aligns to your values. So it could encompass all of the above, and quite often it does.

Which one suits you?
